The Role
As Behaviour Manager, you will oversee day-to-day behaviour support across the school and work closely with pastoral leaders, teachers, senior leaders and families.
You will monitor behaviour incidents, identify patterns and coordinate appropriate interventions.
The role will involve working directly with students, including those who may display challenging or persistent behaviour.
You must therefore be confident, calm and consistent and able to maintain professional boundaries during difficult situations.
Key Responsibilities
Managing day-to-day behaviour support.
Monitoring behaviour incidents.
Identifying recurring behaviour patterns.
Maintaining accurate behaviour records.
Supporting students following incidents.
Coordinating behaviour interventions.
Working closely with pastoral leaders.
Supporting heads of year.
Providing practical support to teaching staff.
Communicating with parents and carers.
Supporting behaviour meetings.
Monitoring students with behaviour support plans.
Helping students understand school expectations.
Supporting appropriate consequences in line with school policy.
Facilitating restorative conversations where appropriate.
Identifying students requiring additional support.
Producing behaviour reports for senior leaders.
Supporting consistent implementation of behaviour procedures.
Contributing to behaviour policy reviews.
Liaising with safeguarding staff where appropriate.
Maintaining confidentiality.
Behaviour Support
The Behaviour Manager will work directly with students who may struggle to meet the school's expectations.
You will help students understand the impact of their behaviour and support them in developing strategies to make more positive choices.
The successful candidate will need to be confident conducting difficult conversations without unnecessarily escalating situations.
You will need to demonstrate authority through consistency, fairness and strong professional relationships.
Working With Teachers
A key responsibility will be supporting teaching staff with behaviour concerns.
You may discuss individual students, review behaviour patterns and help staff implement agreed strategies.
The successful candidate should provide practical and constructive support and help ensure that expectations are applied consistently across the school.
Working With Parents and Carers
You will communicate regularly with parents and carers regarding behaviour incidents and intervention plans.
Some conversations may be challenging, so you must remain calm, professional and focused on finding constructive solutions.
You should be confident explaining school expectations while also listening to parental concerns.
Behaviour Data
Accurate data will be an important part of the position.
You will monitor behaviour information and identify patterns involving individual students, year groups or particular circumstances.
You will prepare reports for senior leaders and use information to help identify areas where additional support may be required.
Good IT and organisational skills are therefore essential.
Safeguarding
Behaviour concerns can sometimes be connected to wider welfare or safeguarding issues.
You will need to recognise when information should be shared with the safeguarding team and follow the school's procedures.
Confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
Requirements
Previous experience in behaviour management, pastoral support or student services.
Experience working with secondary-aged students.
Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies.
Excellent communication skills.
Confidence dealing with challenging behaviour.
Ability to remain calm under pressure.
Strong organisational skills.
Excellent record-keeping ability.
Good IT skills.
Ability to analyse behaviour data.
