The Role
As our Science Technician, you will be the engine room of the science department, taking charge of day-to-day organisation and preparation across our chemistry, biology, and physics labs. You will collaborate closely with our passionate teaching team to ensure every practical lesson runs seamlessly, safely, and memorably.
Your responsibilities will include:
Bringing experiments to life by expertly preparing chemicals, solutions, equipment, and apparatus for thrilling classroom demonstrations.
Trialling cutting-edge practical activities and partnering with teachers to pioneer exciting new experiments.
Championing a culture of safety by strictly adhering to COSHH guidelines, dynamic risk assessments, and robust health and safety regulations.
Expertly storing, managing, and disposing of chemical and biological materials with absolute compliance and care.
Calibrating, maintaining, and performing minor repairs on essential laboratory equipment to keep everything in peak condition.
Owning stock control, leading regular inventory audits, and smart-purchasing supplies within budget.
Curating exceptionally clean, tidy, and inspiring chemical and equipment stores.
Stepping into the classroom to assist teachers during practical lessons, helping elevate student engagement and safety.
Managing Hazcards, material safety data sheets, and chemical waste disposal with total precision.
Providing rapid-response technical troubleshooting when urgent lab needs arise.
Collaborating hand-in-hand with brilliant teachers, fellow technicians, and cross-departmental teams.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
Armed with a science-based qualification (NVQ Level 3, A-Level, or a degree in Science or a related discipline).
Deeply knowledgeable about laboratory safety, chemical handling, and CLEAPSS guidelines (or eager to master them).
Exceptionally organised, meticulous, and practical with a superpower for multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.
Confident working autonomously while thriving as an anchor member of a tight-knit team.
Proactive, dependable, and genuinely passionate about fueling the next generation of scientists.
Approachable, friendly, and dedicated to fostering an incredible learning atmosphere for students and staff.
