We are seeking an enthusiastic, reliable and knowledgeable Science Technician to join our vibrant and supportive secondary school science department in Wiltshire.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting our teaching team by preparing practical lessons, maintaining equipment, and ensuring all laboratories operate safely and efficiently.
The Role
As Science Technician, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day organisation and preparation of resources across our chemistry, biology, and physics laboratories. You will work closely with the Head of Science and teaching staff to ensure that practical lessons run smoothly, safely, and to a high standard.
Your responsibilities will include:
Preparing chemicals, solutions, equipment, and apparatus for classroom experiments and practical demonstrations.
Trialling practical activities and supporting teachers with the development of new experiments.
Maintaining a safe working environment by adhering strictly to COSHH guidelines, risk assessments, and health and safety regulations.
Safely storing, managing, and disposing of chemical and biological materials in compliance with statutory guidelines.
Maintaining, calibrating, and carrying out routine maintenance or minor repairs on laboratory equipment.
Managing stock levels, conducting regular inventory checks, and ordering equipment, chemicals, and consumable supplies within budget.
Keeping chemical and equipment stores clean, tidy, and well-organised.
Assisting teachers during practical lessons when required to support student safety and engagement.
Ensuring safe disposal of waste materials and managing chemical safety data sheets (MSDS/Hazcards).
Responding promptly to urgent technical requests and maintaining clear compliance records.
Working collaboratively with teaching staff, technicians, and other school departments.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
Qualified with a science-based background (NVQ Level 3, A-Level, or a degree in Science or a related discipline).
Knowledgeable about laboratory safety, chemical handling, and CLEAPSS guidelines (or willing to undergo training).
Practical, highly organised, and methodical with a strong eye for detail.
Able to manage multiple tasks effectively in a busy school environment.
Comfortable working independently while operating as an integral part of a collaborative team.
Proactive, reliable, and committed to enabling outstanding practical science teaching.
Friendly, approachable, and supportive of students and staff alike.
Previous experience working as a science technician in a school or educational setting is advantageous, though we will also consider enthusiastic candidates with relevant laboratory, scientific, or technical background.
