Role Overview
An inclusive and nurturing primary school in Camden is seeking an empathetic and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join its dedicated learning support team. This full-time, term-time-only position involves delivering tailored 1:1 and small-group support to children with Special Educational Needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN), and Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The position is ideally suited for an experienced SEN support assistant or a psychology graduate aiming to gain substantial, hands-on experience within a vibrant Central London school. Working alongside class teachers and the school SENCO, you will help adapt daily learning activities, manage sensory needs, and champion an environment where every pupil can thrive.
Key Responsibilities & Requirements
1:1 Learning Support: Deliver structured 1:1 academic tasks, sensory breaks, and social stories aligned with pupils' individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Communication & Engagement: Implement visual schedules, PECS, and Makaton techniques to foster pupil independence and active classroom participation.
Behaviour & Regulation: Support emotional regulation using positive reinforcement strategies, assisting pupils through transitions and maintaining calm learning spaces.
Progress Tracking: Collaborate regularly with the SENCO, class teachers, and external speech and occupational therapists to record and review pupil development.
Qualifications & Skills: Prior experience working with children with complex needs, strong patience, excellent communication skills (GCSE Grade C/4+ in English and Maths), and a clear Enhanced DBS check.
