A thriving Secondary School in St Albans is seeking a reliable and proactive School Caretaker to manage site security, maintenance, and compliance, ensuring a safe and welcoming learning environment for students and staff.

Core Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day site security, including unlocking/locking routines, keyholding, and alarm administration.

• Carry out routine maintenance, basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, and general repairs across the school grounds.

• Track statutory Health & Safety compliance, including weekly fire alarm testing, emergency lighting checks, and water hygiene monitoring.

• Coordinate with external contractors, supervising on-site works and ensuring specifications and safety standards are met.

• Oversee site cleanliness, waste management, and porterage duties.

About You

• Proven background in caretaking, facilities maintenance, or a similar trade role (school experience preferred).

• Solid understanding of health, safety, and manual handling protocols.

• Practical DIY and general repair skills.

• Organised, approachable, and able to work well independently and alongside school staff.
