Science Technician – Thriving Secondary Academy in Oxfordshire
A thriving and well-resourced secondary school in Oxfordshire is seeking an enthusiastic, organised, and practical Science Technician to join its dedicated Science Department for an immediate start.
Job Overview Working under the direction of the Senior Science Technician and Head of Science, the Science Technician will take day-to-day responsibility for preparing practical equipment, managing chemical stocks, and supporting high-quality teaching and learning across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. This is a full-time, permanent role.
Key Responsibilities
Preparing apparatus, solutions, and chemicals for practical science lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5
Setting up, testing, and clearing away experiments in accordance with strict health and safety guidelines
Maintaining, organising, and securely storing laboratory equipment, glassware, and hazardous materials
Assisting teachers during practical classes and supporting students with hands-on investigations when required
Ensuring all laboratories and prep rooms are safe, clean, compliant, and stocked efficiently
Assisting with dynamic risk assessments, COSHH data sheets, and regular safety equipment audits

Candidate Requirements
A strong educational background in science (academic qualification or relevant practical experience)
Excellent organisational skills, reliability, and the ability to work independently in a busy environment
Strong attention to detail and a robust awareness of health, safety, and chemical handling protocols in a lab setting
Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively as part of an active teaching team
Previous experience as a Science Technician or laboratory assistant is desirable, though full training will be provided for the right candidate
