Site Supervisor - Primary School - Woking
Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Paid to scale
Are you a practical, dependable person who takes pride in maintaining a safe and well-presented environment? A primary school in Woking is seeking a capable Site Supervisor to take responsibility for the day-to-day condition and operation of its school premises.
This is a hands-on role for someone who is comfortable dealing with maintenance issues, carrying out site checks, working with contractors and ensuring the school remains safe and secure.
The successful candidate will need to be proactive rather than simply reactive. The school is looking for someone who notices issues, takes appropriate action and communicates clearly when something requires specialist attention.
School Information
This is a well-established primary school in Woking serving children from the local community. The school places strong importance on providing a safe, clean and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
The Site Supervisor will play an important role in maintaining that environment. The school site is used throughout the day for lessons, assemblies, meetings, extracurricular activities and outdoor play, so the successful candidate will need to ensure facilities remain suitable and safe.
You will work closely with school leaders, administrative staff and external contractors. While some tasks will be routine, the role will also involve responding to unexpected issues such as minor damage, maintenance problems or changes to room requirements.
Site Supervisor - Key Responsibilities
The role will include:
Carrying out daily checks of school buildings and grounds.
Inspecting classrooms, corridors and communal areas.
Checking toilets and other facilities.
Monitoring the condition of doors and windows.
Checking external areas and playgrounds.
Identifying hazards and maintenance concerns.
Reporting significant defects to school management.
Completing minor maintenance tasks within your competence.
Supporting general grounds upkeep.
Keeping paths, entrances and access areas safe.
Preparing rooms for meetings and school events.
Moving furniture and equipment when required.
Supporting assemblies and performances.
Assisting with school events and activities.
Managing keys and access arrangements.

Liaising with contractors.
Providing access to authorised contractors.
Maintaining appropriate premises records.
Supporting fire safety checks.
Reporting health and safety concerns.
Assisting with emergency maintenance issues.
Supporting deliveries and storage.
Ensuring equipment is stored safely.
Responding to reasonable premises requests from staff.
Helping maintain a clean, orderly and presentable site.
The school wants someone who is willing to get involved in the practical running of the premises. This could include preparing furniture for an event, checking outdoor areas before pupils use them or dealing with a straightforward maintenance issue.
Maintenance and Practical Work
You should have a good range of practical skills and be comfortable completing minor repairs within your level of competence.
You may be asked to assemble furniture, replace basic fixtures, carry out straightforward repairs or support the general upkeep of the building.
You will not be expected to carry out specialist work for which you are not qualified. Where an issue requires an electrician, plumber, specialist contractor or other qualified professional, you will be expected to report it and assist with the appropriate arrangements.
Health and Safety
Health and safety will be central to the position.
You will carry out regular checks and will need to identify potential hazards quickly. In a primary school, particular attention must be paid to playgrounds, gates, pathways, furniture and facilities used by younger children.
The successful candidate should understand the importance of reporting hazards and following established procedures rather than taking unnecessary risks.
You may also support the school during unexpected incidents, such as leaks, heating issues, damage or other urgent premises concerns.
Contractors and Visitors
External contractors will attend the school when specialist maintenance or compliance work is required.
You will assist with access arrangements and ensure contractors follow the appropriate school procedures.
You may also interact with deliveries and visitors, so a professional and helpful manner will be required.
Site Supervisor - Experience and Requirements
The school would ideally like someone with previous experience in premises, facilities, caretaking or site supervision.
You should have:
Previous premises, facilities or caretaking experience.
Practical maintenance skills.
Good understanding of health and safety.
Ability to identify hazards.
Strong organisation.
Ability to prioritise tasks.
Good communication skills.
Ability to work independently.

You will be expected to maintain professional boundaries, follow school procedures when dealing with visitors and contractors and report any concerns through the appropriate channels.
