Data Manager - Primary School - Guildford
Data Manager - Primary School - Guildford
Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Paid to scale
A primary school in Guildford is seeking an organised and highly accurate Data Manager to take responsibility for maintaining reliable pupil information and supporting the school with the effective use of data.
This is a role where attention to detail genuinely matters. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring pupil records are accurate, information is updated promptly and reports are prepared correctly for school leaders and staff.
You will work closely with the senior leadership team, teachers, administrative colleagues and other support staff. The position would suit someone who enjoys working with systems and spreadsheets but also understands that behind every data entry is a pupil whose information needs to be handled carefully and confidentially.
School Information
The school is a well-established primary school in Guildford with a strong focus on pupil achievement, inclusion and wellbeing. Staff work collaboratively to provide children with a structured and supportive education.
Accurate information is an important part of the school's decision-making. Attendance, assessment, pupil details and other information are regularly used by teachers and leaders to identify progress, allocate support and plan effectively.
The Data Manager will therefore play an important operational role within the school. You will be expected to maintain high standards of accuracy while ensuring information is available when colleagues need it.
The school has established administrative systems and will value someone who can work confidently within existing processes while also identifying opportunities to improve the way information is organised.
Data Manager - Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
Maintaining accurate pupil records.
Updating the school's management information system.
Checking pupil data for errors and inconsistencies.
Processing changes to pupil records promptly.

Supporting data protection procedures.
Monitoring deadlines for scheduled data submissions.
Helping staff access accurate information when required.
Providing practical administrative support relating to school data.
Accuracy will be particularly important around statutory returns and pupil information. You will need to be comfortable checking your work carefully and following established processes rather than rushing to meet a deadline.
Working with School Leaders and Teachers
The Data Manager will regularly receive requests from staff who need information for planning, meetings or reporting purposes.
You should be able to understand what information is being requested, locate the relevant data and present it in a clear and useful format.
You may also support teachers with accessing or interpreting information from school systems. You do not necessarily need to be a data analyst, but you should be comfortable working with spreadsheets, databases and numerical information.
Data Protection and Confidentiality
The role involves handling sensitive information relating to children and families. Confidentiality and data protection will therefore be fundamental.
You must understand that pupil information should only be shared with authorised individuals and through appropriate channels. You will be expected to follow the school's data protection policies and raise any concerns promptly.
Data Manager - Experience and Requirements
The school would ideally like to appoint someone with previous experience in data administration, school administration, MIS management or a similar role.
The successful candidate should have:
Previous experience in data administration or school administration.
Strong attention to detail.
Excellent organisational skills.
Confidence working with spreadsheets.
Good Microsoft Excel skills.

The Data Manager will have access to confidential information about pupils and families. You will therefore be expected to follow the school's safeguarding and data protection procedures at all times.
Any safeguarding concern identified through pupil records or communication must be escalated through the appropriate school procedures.
