CORE PURPOSE
We are seeking an imaginative, articulate, and skilled Art Teacher to deliver inspiring visual arts education across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 GCSE Art & Design, and Key Stage 5 A-Level Fine Art. Working within an established Creative Arts faculty, the successful candidate will foster artistic expression, refine core technical skills across varied media, and build students' critical understanding of art history and contemporary visual culture.
THE SCHOOL
Set on a modern campus featuring spacious art studios, digital media suites, printmaking facilities, and dedicated exhibition spaces, this welcoming secondary academy supports over 1,100 pupils aged 11–18 in Nottingham. Operating within a collaborative Multi-Academy Trust, the school combines high academic ambition with a commitment to creative expression and student wellbeing. The Art department is an energetic creative hub, hosting annual student showcases, gallery study trips, and collaborative community art projects.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver dynamic practical and theoretical art lessons across KS3, KS4 (AQA/OCR GCSE Art & Design), and KS5 (A-Level Fine Art), developing skills in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and mixed media.
Portfolio & NEA Moderation: Guide students through Non-Examined Assessment (NEA) coursework and practical exam projects, cultivating rigorous sketchbook practice, conceptual research, and refined final outcomes.
Studio & Safety Management: Maintain clean, safe, and inspiring art studios, managing inventory for art consumables, specialized equipment (e.g., kilns, print presses), and ensuring compliance with COSHH safety standards.
Exhibitions & Enrichment: Organize annual student art displays, lead after-school art clubs, and assist post-16 pupils preparing digital portfolios for specialist higher education and art foundation applications.
Pastoral Responsibilities: Act as a dedicated Form Tutor, supporting student wellbeing, academic progress, and personal development within the school's pastoral system.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS with a degree in Fine Art, Art & Design, or a closely related visual arts discipline. Confident Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced secondary practitioners are equally encouraged to apply.
Experience: Track record of delivering Art & Design within a UK mainstream secondary school or academy setting across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with A-Level teaching experience being advantageous.
Skills: Excellent personal artistic capability across various techniques, strong classroom management during practical lessons, deep knowledge of exam board assessment criteria, and the ability to stretch high-attaining creative students.
