A caring and well-established Primary School in Poole is looking for a Welfare Officer to provide day-to-day support for pupils and help maintain a safe, healthy and supportive school environment.
This is a varied position that would suit someone who is calm, caring and confident when dealing with children. The successful candidate will work closely with pupils, parents, teachers, pastoral colleagues and school leaders.

The Welfare Officer will provide an important first point of support when pupils become unwell, sustain minor injuries or require assistance during the school day.
You will assess situations appropriately, provide first aid within your training and follow school procedures when further medical attention is required. Accurate records will need to be maintained for all relevant incidents and treatments.
The role is not limited to physical health. You will also support pupils who may be experiencing emotional or wellbeing difficulties. You will need to recognise when a child may require additional support and ensure concerns are passed to the appropriate member of staff.
You will communicate with parents and carers when necessary, explaining incidents clearly and ensuring that important information is recorded and shared appropriately.
The successful candidate will also contribute to maintaining a safe and healthy school environment by ensuring welfare procedures are followed consistently.

Monitor pupils who are unwell during the school day.

Support pupils returning to school following illness or injury.
Provide appropriate emotional and wellbeing support.
Identify concerns and refer them to relevant staff.
Liaise with teachers and pastoral colleagues.
Support safeguarding procedures where appropriate.
Maintain confidentiality regarding pupil information.
Follow school health and safety procedures.
Communicate clearly with parents and carers.
Support the school's wider approach to pupil wellbeing.
Ensure welfare areas are appropriately maintained.

Welfare Officer - Experience and Requirements
Previous experience working with children or young people.
First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain relevant training.
Experience in a school, healthcare, childcare or welfare setting is desirable.
Calm and caring approach.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to deal with minor medical incidents confidently.
Strong organisational skills.
