CORE PURPOSE
We are seeking an articulate, passionate, and scientifically rigorous Biology Teacher to deliver high-quality instruction across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 GCSE Biology, and Key Stage 5 A-Level Biology. Working within an established Science faculty, the successful candidate will inspire a deep understanding of living organisms, cellular biology, genetics, and ecology, preparing students for academic success and higher education pathways in medicine, healthcare, and life sciences.
THE SCHOOL
Set on a modern campus featuring purpose-built science laboratories, specialized microbiology equipment, and dedicated technician prep room support, this vibrant secondary academy supports over 1,200 pupils aged 11–18 in Birmingham. As part of a collaborative Multi-Academy Trust, the school benefits from shared subject networks and continuous professional development. The Science department is a thriving hub of practical investigation, supporting strong post-16 A-Level uptake, medical applicant mentoring, and regional STEM initiatives.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver dynamic theoretical and practical biology lessons across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 (AQA GCSE Combined Science & GCSE Biology), and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Biology), covering biochemistry, physiology, genetics, and ecosystems.
Practical & Laboratory Leadership: Execute required practical assessments and lab investigations safely, working in full compliance with CLEAPSS, COSHH, and departmental health and safety guidelines.
Higher Education & STEM Mentoring: Support Sixth Form students preparing for university applications in Medicine, Veterinary Science, Dentistry, and Biological Sciences, offering guidance on BMAT/UCAT entrance exams and interview preparation.
Diagnostic Assessment: Regularly track, mark, and evaluate student work, conducting diagnostic mock assessments and targeted interventions to ensure pupils meet or exceed target grades.
Pastoral Responsibilities: Act as a dedicated Form Tutor, monitoring student attendance, personal welfare, and academic progress within the school's structured pastoral system.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS with a degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, or a closely related life science discipline. Confident Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced secondary practitioners are equally encouraged to apply.
Experience: Proven experience teaching Biology across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 within a UK mainstream secondary school or academy setting, with A-Level teaching experience highly desirable.
Skills: Strong subject knowledge across modern biological concepts, clear explanation of complex physiological/molecular processes, excellent classroom management during practical tasks, and a passion for science education.
