CORE PURPOSE
We are seeking an articulate, mathematically rigorous, and inspiring Maths Teacher to deliver outstanding Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 GCSE, and Key Stage 5 A-Level Mathematics (with opportunities to teach Further Mathematics depending on candidate expertise). Working within a high-achieving faculty, the successful candidate will foster mathematical fluency, cultivate complex problem-solving capabilities, and prepare pupils for top-tier university degree programs in STEM and quantitative disciplines.
THE SCHOOL
Set on a historic campus featuring contemporary STEM learning centres, interactive digital classrooms, and extensive academic libraries, this selective independent senior school serves over 800 pupils aged 11–18 in Shrewsbury. The Mathematics department operates as an active hub for intellectual challenge, entering pupils into national UKMT challenges, running advanced problem-solving clubs, and mentoring university entry candidates.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Curriculum Delivery: Plan and teach dynamic, structured mathematics lessons across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 (GCSE), and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Mathematics and Further Maths), embedding rigorous algebraic fluency, calculus, statistics, and mechanics.
Higher Education Preparation: Mentor pupils applying for competitive university courses in Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, and Computer Science, including MAT, STEP, and TMUA admissions test preparation.
Assessment & Diagnostic Feedback: Systematically assess student progress through diagnostic exercises, mock examinations, and structured feedback, ensuring high standards of academic attainment.
Co-Curricular Engagement: Lead departmental extension activities, coach teams for regional and national mathematical competitions, and host after-school workshop sessions.
Pastoral Responsibilities: Act as a Sixth Form or Senior School Form Tutor, tracking pupil welfare, providing academic mentoring, and supporting UCAS higher education applications.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a closely related quantitative discipline. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS is welcomed, though outstanding candidates with independent sector experience or strong academic credentials are encouraged to apply.
Experience: Proven experience teaching Mathematics across GCSE and A-Level within an independent, selective, or high-performing secondary school/sixth form setting.
Skills: Deep subject knowledge across core pure mathematics, statistics, and mechanics; ability to explain complex mathematical proofs clearly; and the capacity to challenge and stretch high-attaining pupils.
