Science Technician Role in an Outstanding Secondary School

An Outstanding Secondary School in Hackney is looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Science Technician to join its successful Science Department. The role will involve supporting practical lessons across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, ensuring laboratories are fully prepared and maintained. Science Technician roles in Hackney typically involve preparing apparatus and chemicals, managing stock, supporting practical activities and maintaining high health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare equipment, chemicals and resources for practical lessons

• Set up and clear laboratories before and after lessons

• Support teachers during experiments and demonstrations

• Maintain laboratory equipment and preparation areas

• Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering

• Follow COSHH, CLEAPSS and wider health and safety procedures

• Ensure chemicals and scientific materials are stored safely

• Maintain accurate equipment and stock records

• Report faulty or damaged equipment

• Support the wider Science Department with practical requirements

Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Previous laboratory, technical or school experience

• Knowledge of scientific equipment and practical procedures

• Good understanding of laboratory health and safety

• Strong organisational and time-management skills

• Excellent attention to detail

• A practical, proactive and reliable approach

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
