Science Teacher | Community Secondary School & Sixth Form | Derby
CORE PURPOSE
We are seeking an enthusiastic, articulate, and dedicated Science Teacher to deliver dynamic biology, chemistry, and physics instruction across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (with potential Key Stage 5 A-Level delivery depending on specialist discipline). Working within an established Science faculty, the successful candidate will foster scientific curiosity, build core practical laboratory skills, and prepare pupils of all attainment levels to achieve outstanding progress in GCSE Combined and Separate Sciences.
THE SCHOOL
Set on a modern campus featuring purpose-built science laboratories, interactive demonstration suites, and dedicated prep room support, this vibrant secondary school and sixth form supports over 1,200 pupils aged 11–18 in Derby. KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging, practical-led science lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 (AQA GCSE Combined Science and Separate Sciences), embedding core scientific principles, experimental design, and data analysis.
Laboratory & Practical Management: Execute practical experiments safely, managing chemical storage, lab apparatus, and specialized equipment in strict compliance with CLEAPSS and school health and safety guidelines.
Assessment & Targeted Progress: Conduct regular diagnostic assessments, evaluate required practical work, and implement targeted academic interventions to ensure all pupils achieve or exceed their target grades.
STEM & Co-Curricular Engagement: Contribute to extracurricular STEM initiatives, including after-school science clubs, regional STEM challenges, and university outreach programs.
Pastoral Responsibilities: Act as a dedicated Form Tutor, supporting pupils' personal wellbeing, attendance tracking, and character development within the school's supportive pastoral framework.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS with a degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related scientific discipline. Confident Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced secondary practitioners are equally encouraged to apply.
Experience: Proven experience teaching Science across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 within a UK mainstream secondary school or academy environment.
Skills: Strong subject knowledge across general sciences, excellent laboratory safety management, clear explanation capabilities, and the ability to make complex abstract principles accessible and engaging to young learners.
