CORE PURPOSE
We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and highly organized Food Technology Teacher to deliver inspiring practical and theoretical lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition, with potential Level 2/3 Hospitality and Catering delivery). Working within a well-equipped Design & Technology faculty, the successful candidate will instill essential culinary techniques, teach core principles of food science, nutrition, and hygiene, and foster a passion for healthy living and food innovation.
THE SCHOOL
Set on a modern campus featuring fully equipped catering kitchens, individual practical cooking stations, demonstration suites, and dedicated technician prep rooms, this welcoming secondary school serves over 1,000 pupils aged 11–18 in Liverpool. The Food Technology department is a vibrant practical hub, hosting termly culinary competitions, healthy eating workshops, and links with regional hospitality partners.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver dynamic practical cooking sessions and theoretical lessons across KS3 and KS4 (GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition / Eduqas Hospitality & Catering), covering knife skills, food safety, nutrition, food provenance, and culinary science.
Kitchen Safety & Food Hygiene: Enforce strict health and safety protocols in accordance with food hygiene standards, managing food storage, temperature control, allergen awareness, and COSHH compliance across teaching kitchens.
Practical Preparation & Inventory: Coordinate with food technicians to manage ingredient ordering, kitchen equipment maintenance, recipe costing, and the setup of student practical stations.
Assessment & NEA Moderation: Assess practical cooking skills and theoretical coursework, guiding pupils through Non-Examined Assessments (NEA 1 Food Science Investigation and NEA 2 Food Preparation Task) in strict accordance with exam board guidelines.
Pastoral & Co-Curricular Engagement: Act as a dedicated Form Tutor, run extracurricular cooking clubs, and support whole-school health and nutrition initiatives.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS with a degree in Food Technology, Food and Nutrition, Catering, Hospitality, or a closely related discipline. Food Hygiene Certification (Level 2 or 3) is required. Confident Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced secondary practitioners are equally encouraged to apply.
Experience: Proven experience teaching Food Technology or Hospitality & Catering across secondary key stages within a UK mainstream school or academy setting.
Skills: Excellent practical culinary techniques, deep understanding of food safety legislation, strong classroom management during practical lessons, and the ability to inspire creative cooking skills in pupils of all abilities.
