School Finance Officer – Secondary Academy in Reading (ASAP Start)
A welcoming secondary academy in Reading is seeking an experienced, meticulous School Finance Officer to join its busy operational finance team for an immediate (ASAP) start.
Job Overview
Working under the direction of the School Business Manager, the Finance Officer will take day-to-day responsibility for processing financial transactions, managing purchase orders, reconciling accounts, processing invoices, and maintaining accurate financial records in full compliance with academy financial regulations. This is a full-time, ongoing or permanent role.
Key Responsibilities
Process purchase requisitions, issue purchase orders, and match supplier invoices to delivery notes
Manage accounts payable and receivable ledgers, executing weekly BACS payment runs and managing credit control
Perform monthly bank reconciliations, petty cash management, and credit card statement reconciliations
Administer student online payment systems for trips, meals, and uniform purchases
Assist the School Business Manager with monthly budget monitoring statements, VAT returns, and audit preparation
Handle financial queries from staff, suppliers, and parents in a professional, efficient manner

Candidate Requirements
Proven experience working in a school finance office, accounting role, or finance administration environment
Relevant accounting qualification (AAT Level 2/3/4) or equivalent hands-on bookkeeping experience
Proficiency with school finance software packages (such as PS Financials, Access Education, SIMS FMS, or Sage)
High attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and organizational skills
An active enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
