CORE PURPOSE
We are seeking an articulate, academically rigorous, and passionate Economics Teacher to deliver outstanding Key Stage 4 GCSE Economics and Key Stage 5 A-Level Economics. Working within a high-achieving Business and Humanities faculty, the successful candidate will engage students in microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, international trade, market structures, and financial policy, cultivating sharp analytical skills and preparing pupils for top-tier university degree programs.

Set on a historic campus featuring contemporary social science suites, digital learning labs, and extensive academic libraries, this selective independent senior school serves over 800 pupils aged 11–18 in Shrewsbury. The Economics department operates as an active hub for intellectual debate, hosting student-led investment societies, mock stock-market challenges, and regular guest lectures from industry professionals.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Curriculum & A-Level Delivery: Plan and teach dynamic theoretical and applied Economics lessons across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 (AQA/Edexcel A-Level specifications), covering core principles of microeconomics, macroeconomics, and global trade dynamics.
Analytical & Data Training: Guide students through quantitative economic reasoning, data response analysis, essay structure, and evaluation of real-world economic policy.
Academic Mentorship & Higher Education: Prepare pupils for university admissions, mentor candidates applying for Economics, Finance, and PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics) degree courses, and supervise Extended Project Qualifications (EPQs).
Assessment & Essay Moderation: Systematically evaluate student progress through rigorous essay marking, case study assessments, and mock examinations, providing detailed feedback to maximize academic attainment.
Pastoral & Extracurricular Contribution: Act as a Sixth Form Form Tutor, providing academic mentoring and UCAS application support, while leading extracurricular economics debate groups and national competition entries.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Degree in Economics, Finance, or a closely related discipline. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS is welcomed, though outstanding candidates with independent sector experience or strong academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Experience: Proven experience teaching Economics at GCSE and A-Level within a secondary school, sixth form, or independent setting.
Skills: High-level subject expertise across micro and macroeconomics, strong capability in quantitative economic analysis, excellent essay moderation skills, and the ability to challenge high-attaining post-16 pupils.
