A friendly and established Primary School in Hull is looking for a reliable, hands-on and conscientious Caretaker to join its premises team on a full-time, permanent basis.
The successful candidate will take an active role in maintaining the school's buildings, grounds and facilities, helping to ensure that pupils and staff have a safe, secure and welcoming environment every day.
This is a varied position for someone who enjoys practical work and takes pride in keeping a site well maintained. You will be responsible for a range of routine duties while also responding to maintenance issues and supporting the school with events, deliveries and general site requirements.

Caretaker Role

Supporting the day-to-day running of the school site.
Maintaining buildings, grounds and facilities.
Carrying out routine health and safety checks.
Supporting school security.
Undertaking minor maintenance tasks where appropriate.
Assisting with deliveries and school events.
Liaising with contractors when required.

Premises Team
The Caretaker will have responsibility for a broad range of practical and operational duties.

Key Responsibilities
Carry out regular checks of the school premises.
Inspect classrooms, corridors, offices and communal spaces.
Monitor the condition of school buildings.
Identify and report maintenance issues.
Complete minor repairs where competent.
Check doors, windows, gates and other access points.
Support opening and closing procedures.
Assist with maintaining site security.
Carry out routine health and safety checks.
Report hazards promptly.
Support fire safety procedures.
Assist with emergency arrangements.
Monitor playgrounds, paths and outdoor areas.
Support the upkeep of school grounds.
Assist with deliveries and storage.
Move furniture and equipment safely when required.
Prepare rooms for meetings and school events.
Assist with school events from a premises perspective.
Liaise with external contractors.
Provide access to contractors when required.
Monitor contractor activity appropriately.
Maintain records of maintenance work.
Report outstanding issues to relevant staff.
Assist with waste management.
Monitor basic site supplies and equipment.
Keep tools and equipment organised.
Respond to staff requests relating to practical site matters.
Support the wider premises function.
Maintain high standards of site presentation.
Follow health and safety procedures.

Maintain professional relationships with staff, pupils and visitors.
Experience and Requirements
Previous experience as a caretaker, maintenance worker, facilities assistant, site supervisor or in another practical environment would be beneficial.
The school is looking for someone with a strong practical approach and a genuine sense of responsibility.
You should be able to identify issues, prioritise tasks and work safely. You will also need to understand that working within a primary school requires a particularly professional and responsible approach.
