A welcoming and well-established faith secondary school in Wigan is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Food Technology Teacher to join its Design and Technology department. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher or ECT who is passionate about practical education and wants to inspire students through engaging Food Technology lessons.
The role will involve teaching across KS3 and KS4, with opportunities to contribute to KS5 where appropriate. Current Food Technology vacancies in Wigan highlight demand for teachers who can confidently deliver both practical cookery and theoretical aspects of the curriculum, including nutrition, food science, hygiene and GCSE preparation.
The Role
The successful teacher will deliver engaging lessons that develop students' practical skills, creativity and understanding of food and nutrition. You will teach a mixture of practical and theory-based content, ensuring students understand not only how to prepare food but also the scientific, nutritional and cultural principles behind it.
You will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality lessons, assessing student progress and maintaining a safe and productive food technology environment.
Key Responsibilities
Teach Food Technology across KS3, KS4 and, where appropriate, KS5.
Deliver engaging practical cooking and theory lessons.
Develop students' knowledge of nutrition, food science and food preparation.
Prepare students for GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition examinations.
Plan lessons that accommodate a range of abilities and learning needs.
Assess and monitor student progress effectively.
Provide constructive feedback to support student development.
Maintain high standards of behaviour during practical activities.
Ensure food hygiene and health and safety procedures are followed.
Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Design and Technology department.
Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development.
Support enrichment activities and wider school initiatives where appropriate.

Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate will have QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification, alongside strong subject knowledge in Food Technology, Food Preparation and Nutrition or a related Design and Technology discipline.

You should have:

Strong Food Technology subject knowledge.
Experience teaching at secondary level.

Strong behaviour management skills.
Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
The ability to differentiate lessons effectively.
A passion for practical and creative education.
A commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing.
Experience preparing students for GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition would be advantageous.
