An established independent secondary school in Harrow is seeking a practical, organised and enthusiastic Science Technician to join its Science department. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technician, laboratory professional, Science graduate or someone with relevant practical experience who is looking to develop their career within education.
The Science Technician will play an important role in supporting teachers and students across KS3, KS4 and KS5, helping to ensure practical lessons, demonstrations and experiments are properly prepared, safely delivered and effectively cleared away.
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, providing technical support and helping to maintain an organised, well-equipped laboratory environment. Similar Science Technician roles in Harrow involve preparing practical resources, maintaining laboratory equipment and supporting safe delivery of the Science curriculum.
Your Role
This is a varied position that combines practical laboratory work, organisation, stock management and day-to-day support for the Science department.
You will prepare equipment and materials ahead of lessons, assist teachers with practical demonstrations and investigations, maintain laboratory resources and ensure that classrooms and laboratories are ready for use.
Health and safety will be an important part of the role, so you will need to work carefully and methodically while following appropriate procedures for handling equipment, chemicals and laboratory materials.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare apparatus, equipment and materials for practical Science lessons.
Set up and clear laboratories before and after experiments.
Support teachers during practical demonstrations and investigations.
Assist across Biology, Chemistry and Physics where required.
Maintain laboratory equipment and report faults promptly.
Keep laboratories clean, organised and appropriately stocked.
Monitor Science resources and maintain accurate stock records.
Assist with ordering and replenishing laboratory materials.
Ensure equipment is stored safely and correctly.
Follow all relevant health and safety procedures.
Support the safe handling and disposal of laboratory materials.
Prepare resources for GCSE and A-Level practical work where appropriate.
Maintain records relating to equipment, resources and practical activities.
Work collaboratively with teachers and other Science Technicians.
