About the Role
As Attendance Officer, you will take responsibility for monitoring and maintaining accurate attendance records across the school. You will analyse attendance information, follow up unexplained absences and communicate regularly with families where concerns arise.
The role will involve a mixture of administrative duties, communication with families and direct work with students. You will need to be confident handling sensitive conversations and able to build positive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
You will also work alongside the safeguarding and pastoral teams where attendance concerns may indicate wider issues affecting a student's welfare or ability to engage with education.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor daily attendance and punctuality across the school.
Follow up unexplained and persistent absences promptly.
Contact parents and carers regarding attendance concerns.
Maintain accurate attendance records and ensure information is updated appropriately.
Identify patterns of persistent absence and raise concerns with relevant staff.
Produce attendance reports and provide accurate information to pastoral and senior leadership teams.
Support attendance improvement strategies and targeted interventions.
Meet with students to discuss barriers affecting their attendance.
Work collaboratively with pastoral, safeguarding and administrative colleagues.
Maintain appropriate records of attendance-related communication and interventions.
Assist with attendance meetings involving parents and carers.
Follow school policies and relevant attendance and safeguarding procedures.
Handle confidential student and family information appropriately.
