Art Teacher | Outstanding Secondary School in Derby
An Outstanding Secondary School in Derby is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and creative Art Teacher to join its successful Art and Design department from September. The Role
The successful Art Teacher will teach across KS3 and KS4, with the opportunity to contribute to KS5 depending on experience. You will deliver practical and theoretical lessons covering a range of artistic disciplines, helping students develop their understanding of materials, techniques, artists, and creative processes.
Students will be encouraged to experiment with different media, develop individual ideas, and evaluate their work thoughtfully. You will create an environment where creativity is encouraged while maintaining high expectations for presentation, technique, and artistic development.
The role will also provide opportunities to contribute to exhibitions, competitions, extracurricular clubs, and wider creative projects across the school.
Key Responsibilities
Teach Art across KS3, KS4, and KS5 where appropriate
Plan and deliver engaging practical and theoretical lessons
Prepare students for GCSE and relevant post-16 examinations
Develop students' confidence with a wide range of artistic techniques and media
Encourage experimentation, creativity, and independent thinking
Assess student work and provide constructive feedback
Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development
Support exhibitions, art clubs, competitions, and extracurricular activities
Maintain a stimulating and well-organised learning environment

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching Art at secondary level
Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently
Strong knowledge of a range of artistic techniques and media
Excellent classroom management skills
Strong communication and organisational abilities
A genuine passion for Art and creative education
Desirable
Ability to teach Art at KS5
Experience delivering GCSE or A-Level Art
Experience with drawing, painting, photography, textiles, sculpture, or digital art
Experience supporting exhibitions or extracurricular Art activities
A relevant degree or professional background in Art and Design
