School Business Manager (SBM) – Primary Federation in Bath (January Start)
A well-regarded primary school federation in Bath is seeking an experienced, strategic School Business Manager (SBM) to lead its financial, operational, HR, and administrative functions for a permanent January start.
Job Overview
Reporting directly to the Headteacher and Governing Body, the School Business Manager is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). You will take strategic leadership of finance (budget setting, auditing, procurement), human resources, premises management, health and safety, and administrative systems across the school. This role requires an accomplished financial manager with strong leadership acumen.
Key Responsibilities
Take strategic responsibility for multi-year budget planning, financial forecasting, payroll validation, and annual audit management
Line manage non-teaching support teams, including administrative officers, finance assistants, site staff, and catering personnel
Oversee school HR functions, including recruitment administration, single central record (SCR) maintenance, and staff contracts
Lead procurement processes, negotiating high-value service contracts (catering, IT, cleaning) to maximize value for money
Oversee school estate planning, health and safety compliance, risk registers, and capital grant funding applications
Attend Governor meetings, presenting clear financial statements, budget monitoring reports, and operational updates

Candidate Requirements
Diploma in School Business Management (DSBM / CSBM) OR relevant degree qualification in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management
Proven experience in financial management, budget preparation, and accounting (school or academy trust experience essential)
Sound knowledge of school HR practices, statutory compliance, and Single Central Record (SCR) requirements
Strong leadership, strategic negotiation, and interpersonal management skills
Active enhanced DBS check
