An Independent Secondary School in Derby is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Economics Teacher to join its successful Business and Economics department from September. The Role
The successful Economics Teacher will teach Economics across KS4 and KS5, delivering engaging lessons that encourage students to apply economic theory to current affairs and real-world situations.
You will cover areas including microeconomics, macroeconomics, market structures, government policy, international trade, development, and financial markets, depending on the relevant curriculum. Lessons should challenge students to evaluate different perspectives, interpret data, and construct well-supported arguments.
The department encourages students to engage with economic news and develop an understanding of how economic decisions affect businesses, individuals, and society. The successful teacher will contribute to this approach through stimulating classroom discussion and relevant enrichment opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Teach Economics across KS4 and KS5
Plan and deliver engaging and challenging Economics lessons
Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations
Develop students' analytical, evaluative, and quantitative skills
Use current economic developments to enrich classroom learning
Assess student progress and provide detailed feedback
Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development
Support Economics-related enrichment, competitions, and wider activities
Maintain high standards of classroom management and student engagement

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching Economics at secondary level
Strong knowledge of Economics at GCSE level
Excellent subject knowledge and communication skills
Strong classroom management abilities
Ability to engage students through discussion, analysis, and real-world examples
Desirable
Experience teaching A-Level Economics
Experience preparing students for A-Level examinations
Strong quantitative and data-analysis skills
Experience supporting Economics enrichment activities
A degree or relevant academic background in Economics or a related discipline
A passion for current affairs and economic developments
