Art Teacher | Modern & Vibrant Sixth Form College | Peterborough
CORE PURPOSE
We are seeking a creative, forward-thinking Art Teacher to deliver high-quality visual arts programs to post-16 learners across Level 2 and Level 3 courses (including A-Level Fine Art, Graphic Communication, and Foundation Diplomas). Working closely with the Head of Creative Arts, the successful candidate will foster independent artistic practice, guide portfolio development, and prepare students for higher education, university conservatoires, or entry into the creative industries.
THE SCHOOL
Set on a modern, purpose-built campus featuring light-filled art studios, specialized printmaking equipment, digital media suites, and a dedicated student exhibition gallery, this highly regarded sixth form college serves over 1,500 young adults across Peterborough and the surrounding region. The college offers a mature, adult learning environment that encourages self-expression, critical thinking, and artistic exploration. The Creative Arts faculty functions as an energetic cultural hub, maintaining strong links with regional galleries, design agencies, and university arts departments.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Post-16 Curriculum Delivery: Deliver engaging practical workshops, art history lectures, and individual studio tutorials across A-Level and Vocational Art and Design courses.
Portfolio & University Preparation: Mentor students through the creation of professional portfolios for UCAS applications, art foundation courses, and creative degree admissions.
Studio & Gallery Management: Oversee specialized studio spaces, ensuring safe handling of materials, proper care of equipment, and organizing end-of-year public art exhibitions.
Assessment & Moderation: Conduct ongoing formative assessments, guide student research and contextual studies, and prepare coursework submissions for exam board moderation.
Pastoral & Professional Guidance: Act as a Personal Tutor for post-16 students, supporting their personal development, academic progress, and career aspirations within the arts.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or specialized Post-Compulsory Education (PGCE FE) qualifications, accompanied by a degree in Fine Art, Visual Communication, or a related creative discipline.
Experience: Proven track record of teaching Art and Design at Key Stage 4 or post-16 (A-Level/BTEC) level within a college, secondary school, or academy.
Skills: Strong personal artistic practice, expertise across traditional media (drawing, painting, printmaking) and digital arts tools, excellent portfolio moderation skills, and the ability to inspire creative confidence in young adults.
