Daily Supply Science Teacher | Secondary Schools & Colleges Across Birmingham
CORE PURPOSE
We are seeking an adaptable, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable Daily Supply Science Teacher to deliver engaging cover lessons across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. Working across a wide network of secondary institutions, the successful candidate will deliver pre-set practical and theoretical science lessons, maintain safe lab environments, and keep students engaged with scientific inquiry on a flexible daily basis.
THE SECTOR & SETTINGS
This role provides flexible teaching opportunities across a diverse cross-section of Birmingham’s educational landscape—ranging from modern multi-academy trust secondary schools and specialist STEM academies to selective independent senior schools and sixth-form colleges. Supply teachers receive fully set cover plans from science department heads, supported by dedicated lab technician teams and well-resourced laboratory facilities across all placements.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Science Cover Delivery: Teach pre-planned Biology, Chemistry, and Physics cover lessons across KS3, KS4, and KS5, delivering curriculum content clearly and accurately.
Laboratory & Safety Oversight: Enforce strict health and safety protocols, CLEAPSS guidelines, and safe lab practices during theoretical discussions and any basic cover tasks.
Classroom & Behaviour Management: Apply individual school behaviour policies effectively to maintain a focused, safe, and productive working atmosphere in science labs.
Feedback & Handover: Collect student work, mark key tasks completed during the lesson, and leave concise handover notes for returning science faculty members.
Differentiated STEM Support: Assist pupils of varying scientific abilities, supporting those needing additional guidance while challenging high-attaining students with extension tasks.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or specialized secondary teaching credentials with a degree in Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related STEM discipline).
Experience: Proven experience teaching Science across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (Key Stage 5/A-Level experience is highly desirable) within UK secondary settings.
Skills: Strong scientific subject knowledge, excellent classroom management skills, familiarity with secondary science lab safety protocols, and high adaptability.
