CORE PURPOSE
We are seeking an inspiring, specialist Food Technology Teacher to deliver Level 2 and Level 3 vocational qualifications in Food Preparation, Hospitality, and Catering to post-16 learners. Working within a dedicated vocational faculty, the successful candidate will deliver practical culinary masterclasses, teach advanced food science and nutritional analysis, and prepare students for university pathways, higher apprenticeships, or direct entry into the food and hospitality industries.
THE SCHOOL
Set on a state-of-the-art post-16 campus featuring commercial-grade demonstration kitchens, industry-standard catering suites, and modern analytical food labs, this highly regarded sixth form college serves over 1,500 young adults from across Greater Manchester. The college provides a mature, university-style learning environment that bridges the gap between secondary education and industry. The Hospitality and Food Technology department boasts strong links with regional culinary employers, university food science faculties, and local hospitality networks.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Post-16 Curriculum Delivery: Deliver engaging practical and theoretical lessons across BTEC Level 2/3 Hospitality and WJEC/NCFE Level 3 Food Science and Nutrition specifications.
Industry & Vocational Preparation: Train students in professional knife skills, advanced food preparation techniques, menu design, and commercial kitchen management standards.
Assessment & Portfolio Supervision: Guide students through practical assessments, coursework portfolios, unit assignments, and external examination prep.
Food Safety & Commercial Compliance: Enforce rigorous Level 2/3 Food Hygiene standards, HACCP protocols, allergen control, and equipment maintenance across all kitchen laboratories.
Employer Engagement & Masterclasses: Coordinate industry site visits, arrange guest lectures with head chefs and food technologists, and support students with work placement opportunities.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or specialized FE/Vocational teaching qualifications (e.g., PGCE Post-Compulsory) with a relevant degree in Food Science, Hospitality Management, or Culinary Arts.
Experience: Proven experience delivering post-16 or Key Stage 4 Food Technology, Hospitality, or Food Science qualifications within a college, academy, or vocational setting.
Skills: High-level culinary expertise, deep understanding of food safety legislation and nutrition science, strong portfolio moderation skills, and the ability to mentor young adults toward higher education or industry roles.
