Food Technology Teacher Role in an Outstanding Secondary School
An Outstanding Secondary School in Wigan is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and creative Food Technology Teacher to join its successful Design & Technology department. About the Role
The successful Food Technology Teacher will deliver engaging lessons across KS3, KS4, and, where appropriate, KS5. You will teach students about nutrition, food preparation, food science, health, sustainability, and the principles behind successful product development.
Practical work will form an important part of the role, giving students opportunities to develop their confidence, creativity, organisation, and technical skills. You will encourage students to experiment, evaluate their work, and understand the relationship between food, nutrition, science, and wider society.
The successful candidate will also contribute to curriculum planning and enrichment activities within the wider Design & Technology department.
Key Responsibilities
Teach Food Technology across KS3, KS4, and KS5 where appropriate
Plan and deliver engaging practical and theoretical lessons
Prepare students for relevant GCSE and post-16 examinations
Develop students' knowledge of nutrition, food science, and preparation techniques
Ensure safe working practices are followed within food technology rooms
Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback
Contribute to curriculum development and departmental planning
Support extracurricular activities and wider school initiatives
Encourage creativity, independence, and confidence through practical learning

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching Food Technology or a closely related Design & Technology subject
Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently
Strong practical and theoretical subject knowledge
Excellent classroom management and communication skills
Commitment to maintaining high standards of health and safety
Desirable
Experience teaching Food Technology at KS5
Experience delivering GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition
Strong knowledge of nutrition and food science
Experience working with specialist food technology equipment
A passion for developing students' practical and creative skills
