Data Manager - The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
Managing the school's management information system
Maintaining accurate student records
Updating student information
Processing admissions
Processing student transfers
Processing leavers
Producing attendance reports
Supporting assessment cycles
Producing attainment reports
Supporting progress analysis
Preparing information for senior leaders
Supporting departmental data requirements
Checking data accuracy
Identifying inconsistencies
Resolving data issues
Supporting statutory returns
Maintaining confidential information
Supporting reporting processes
Producing spreadsheets and reports
Supporting staff with data queries
Maintaining data procedures
Ensuring appropriate data protection
Meeting important reporting deadlines
School data roles commonly involve maintaining MIS records, producing attendance and attainment reports, supporting assessment cycles and preparing information for leadership and statutory requirements.
Data Manager - MIS and Systems
The successful candidate should be confident working with school management information systems.
Experience with systems such as SIMS, Arbor, Bromcom or similar would be highly advantageous.
You will be responsible for ensuring information entered into the system is accurate and up to date.
You will also support colleagues who need to access or use school data.
The role requires a methodical approach because even small inaccuracies can affect reports and decision-making.
Data Manager - Assessment and Reporting
Assessment data will form an important part of your work.
You may support the collection, checking and processing of assessment information before producing reports for teachers and senior leaders.
You will need to work carefully around deadlines and ensure information is ready when required.
You should be confident presenting data clearly so that colleagues can understand what the information is showing.
Data Manager - Attendance and Student Information
You will also support the management of student information relating to attendance and other key areas.
This may include producing reports, checking records and highlighting inconsistencies.
You will work alongside pastoral and administrative teams to ensure information is accurate and available when needed.
Data Manager - Excel and Analysis
Strong Microsoft Excel skills will be important.
You should be comfortable working with spreadsheets, filtering information, checking large datasets and producing clear reports.
The role would suit someone who enjoys finding inconsistencies and solving data problems.
You need to be naturally analytical while also being able to explain information to colleagues who may not have the same level of technical expertise.
Data Manager - Experience and Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
Previous school data or MIS experience
Experience as a Data Manager, Data Officer or similar
Strong Excel skills
Experience using an MIS
SIMS, Arbor or Bromcom experience desirable
Excellent attention to detail
Strong analytical skills
Excellent organisational ability
Ability to manage deadlines
Good communication skills
Strong record-keeping skills
Understanding of confidentiality
Awareness of data protection requirements
