You will be responsible for delivering engaging and challenging Chemistry lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with opportunities to teach A-Level Chemistry for the right candidate. Chemistry Teacher - Science Department

The Science department is committed to giving students a strong understanding of the scientific world and developing their curiosity about how and why things happen.

At KS3, students will develop their foundational understanding of particles, elements, compounds, chemical reactions, energy and materials.

At KS4, students will build towards GCSE Chemistry through increasingly detailed study of areas such as atomic structure, bonding, quantitative chemistry, chemical changes, energy changes, organic chemistry, chemical analysis and chemical resources.

Where KS5 teaching is required, you will be expected to support students with the more advanced content and analytical demands of A-Level Chemistry.

Practical work will form an important part of the curriculum. Students should understand not only how to carry out an experiment safely but also how to interpret results, identify limitations and draw appropriate conclusions.

Chemistry Teacher - Teaching and Learning

The school is looking for a teacher who can make Chemistry engaging without losing the academic rigour required at GCSE and A-Level.

You should be able to break down difficult concepts into manageable stages and use questioning effectively to establish whether students have genuinely understood the material.

Students should be encouraged to explain their thinking, use appropriate scientific terminology and apply their knowledge rather than simply memorising facts.

Chemistry Teacher - Practical Science

Practical Science is an important part of the role.

You should be confident planning and supervising experiments and ensuring students understand appropriate laboratory procedures.

Safety must remain a priority, particularly when students are working independently with chemicals and specialist equipment.

The successful teacher will work effectively with Science technicians to ensure practical lessons are properly prepared and resources are available.

Chemistry Teacher - Experience and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

• A degree in Chemistry or a closely related subject

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Experience teaching Chemistry at secondary level

• Strong KS3 and KS4 Chemistry knowledge

• GCSE Chemistry teaching experience

• A-Level Chemistry experience desirable

• Strong practical laboratory knowledge

• Excellent classroom management

• Good understanding of Science assessment

• Ability to differentiate effectively
