PE Teacher - Physical Education Department

The PE department aims to provide students with a varied and enjoyable curriculum that develops both sporting ability and an understanding of the importance of physical activity.

At KS3, students will have opportunities to experience different sports and develop fundamental skills, tactical awareness and confidence.

At KS4, students undertaking GCSE PE will develop their understanding of areas such as anatomy and physiology, physical training, sports psychology, socio-cultural influences and practical performance, alongside their examination preparation.

The successful candidate should be able to make theoretical PE accessible and relevant while continuing to deliver high-quality practical lessons.

You will also be expected to contribute to the department's wider sporting programme. Current Surrey PE roles frequently emphasise extracurricular clubs, fixtures and wider sporting opportunities alongside classroom teaching.

PE Teacher - Teaching and Learning

The school wants PE lessons to be active, purposeful and inclusive.

You should be able to create lessons where students understand what they are learning and why it matters. Rather than simply allowing students to play sport, you will develop specific physical, tactical and social skills through structured activities.

You should also be confident supporting students who may initially lack confidence in PE.

PE Teacher - Extra-Curricular Sport

PE Teacher - Experience and Qualifications

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• A degree in Physical Education, Sport or a related subject

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Experience teaching PE at secondary level

• Strong practical PE knowledge

• Experience teaching KS3

• KS4/GCSE PE experience desirable

• KS5 experience advantageous

• Knowledge of a broad range of sports

• Strong classroom and practical lesson management

• Understanding of health and safety in PE
