Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Dependent on experience
Caretaker
Are you a practical, reliable and hands-on individual who takes pride in maintaining buildings and creating a safe environment for others? A well-established Secondary School in Lincoln is seeking a committed Caretaker to join its premises team on a full-time, permanent basis.
This is an important role within the school and would suit someone with practical maintenance experience who enjoys variety and is comfortable taking responsibility for the day-to-day condition of a busy site.
Working alongside the Premises Manager and senior leadership team, you will help ensure classrooms, offices, corridors, communal areas, grounds and specialist facilities remain safe, functional and well maintained.
Your day will involve a mixture of planned maintenance and responding to issues as they arise. You may begin the morning completing site checks before dealing with a maintenance request from a member of staff, preparing an area for an event or assisting a contractor attending the school.
The successful candidate will need to be practical and willing to get involved. Minor repairs, basic maintenance, moving furniture and preparing rooms will all form part of the role.
You will also assist with the security of the site. This will include opening and securing buildings, checking access points, monitoring gates and doors and reporting any concerns promptly.

Maintenance and Site Responsibilities
The school is looking for someone who is comfortable carrying out practical tasks rather than relying entirely on external contractors.
This could include basic repairs, replacing fittings, assembling equipment, carrying out minor decorating work or dealing with general wear and tear around the site.
Where specialist work is required, you will report the issue to the appropriate person and assist with contractor access and site arrangements.
You will also help maintain the appearance of the school. This includes monitoring communal areas and external spaces and ensuring that issues affecting the presentation of the site are addressed.
Health and Safety
Health and safety will be a key consideration throughout the role.
You will need to identify hazards such as damaged fixtures, blocked access routes, faulty equipment or issues around external areas and report or address them appropriately.
You will also follow school procedures when dealing with contractors, deliveries, maintenance work and emergencies.
The successful candidate should understand that working in a school environment requires particular care because students will be present across the site throughout the day.

The ideal candidate will have:
Previous Caretaker, Maintenance or Facilities experience
Good practical repair and maintenance skills
Understanding of basic health and safety procedures
Ability to identify hazards and maintenance issues
Strong organisational skills
Reliable and flexible approach
Good communication skills
Ability to work independently
Ability to prioritise tasks

From ensuring classrooms are ready in the morning to resolving maintenance issues during the school day, your work will help create an environment where students and staff can focus on teaching and learning.
This is an excellent permanent opportunity for someone looking for a varied, practical role within a well-established school.
