Psychology Teacher
You would be joining a successful Social Sciences department where Psychology is taught as a stimulating and academically challenging subject. The department encourages students to explore the factors that influence human behaviour while developing the critical thinking, research and evaluation skills needed for successful examination performance.
At Key Stage 4, students are introduced to key psychological concepts and approaches, developing an understanding of areas such as memory, social influence, development, psychological problems and research methods.
At A-Level, students progress to more detailed study of psychological theories, research and applications. Students explore areas such as social influence, memory, attachment, biopsychology, approaches, research methods and issues and debates. Depending on the specification, students may also study topics such as relationships, schizophrenia, forensic psychology or other optional areas.
Lessons are designed to encourage students to question evidence and evaluate competing explanations. Students are expected to understand not only what psychological research suggests but also how reliable and useful that research may be.
The department encourages students to engage with contemporary psychological research and real-world applications. Enrichment may include university outreach, psychology lectures, research projects, debates and careers events linked to Psychology, Mental Health, Education, Criminology and related fields.
The successful teacher will work alongside experienced colleagues in a supportive department where planning, assessment and resources are shared. You will be encouraged to contribute ideas and help develop an engaging curriculum that prepares students effectively for examinations and further study.
