Day-to-Day Design & Technology Supply Specialist – Secondary Schools Across Gloucester
Secondary academies and comprehensive schools across Gloucester and the surrounding Gloucestershire area (GL postcodes, including Central Gloucester, Quedgeley, Hucclecote, Cheltenham, and Stroud) are seeking adaptable, safety-conscious Design & Technology Specialists for flexible day-to-day and short-term supply cover across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
Role Overview
As a specialist DT Supply Teacher, you will step into pre-planned Design & Technology lessons (covering Resistant Materials, Product Design, Graphics, Systems & Control, or Food Technology where applicable) across various secondary settings in Gloucester. Schools particularly value DT specialists who can enforce strict workshop safety standards, guide CAD/CAM and practical project tasks, and maintain strong classroom management in active learning environments.
This position offers complete flexibility: choose to work anywhere from 1 to 5 days per week with zero lesson planning, marking, or extra-curricular obligations.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver pre-set Design & Technology lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE / Vocational)
Supervise workshop practicals, ensuring students operate hand tools, machinery, and equipment safely in full compliance with health and safety regulations
Assist pupils with CAD/CAM tasks, design ideas, technical drawing, and prototyping evaluations
Maintain tight classroom control and equipment vigilance in workshops, computer labs, and food rooms
Complete electronic attendance registers accurately at the start of each period
Leave structured written feedback and handover notes for returning departmental staff

Candidate Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognized UK equivalent (ECTs, Experienced Teachers, and FE/vocational specialists welcome)
Honors degree in Design & Technology, Product Design, Engineering, or a related field
Up-to-date awareness of secondary workshop health, safety, and machinery protocols (DATA/CLEAPSS training advantageous)
Strong classroom management and practical group supervision abilities
An active DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)
