Role: Teacher of English (KS3–KS5)
Location: Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: Highly Competitive
Are you an English Teacher who enjoys getting students excited about books, ideas and the way language works?
An outstanding secondary school in Cambridge is looking for an enthusiastic English Teacher to join its department. They're looking for someone who knows their subject well but, more importantly, enjoys sharing that knowledge with young people.
The school wants students to do more than simply prepare for exams. They want them to read widely, express themselves clearly and develop the confidence to have their own opinions.
The Role
Teach English across KS3–KS5, developing students' reading, writing, speaking and analytical skills.
Help students become more confident when discussing texts and sharing their ideas.
Build strong foundations in grammar, vocabulary, comprehension and essay writing.
Support GCSE and A-Level English Language and Literature students.
Teach a varied selection of novels, poetry, drama and non-fiction.
Use discussion, creative writing, debate and wider reading to make lessons engaging.
Encourage students to read beyond the texts they study in class.
Contribute to reading clubs, debating, creative writing and other English activities.
Create a classroom where students feel comfortable asking questions and trying out their ideas.
The Candidate
We're looking for an English specialist who genuinely enjoys literature and language.
A degree in English or a related subject would be desirable, alongside relevant secondary teaching experience. GCSE or A-Level experience would be an advantage.
You should be confident explaining difficult ideas clearly and be able to challenge students without making the subject inaccessible.
You'll also understand that students have different starting points. Some will already love reading and writing, while others will need encouragement to find something they connect with.
The Environment
You'll be joining a successful and supportive English department within an outstanding secondary school in Cambridge.
The school encourages teachers to bring their own ideas to lessons and provides opportunities for professional development and wider involvement across the school.
