Are you a History Teacher who enjoys bringing the past to life and getting students to question why things happened?

An outstanding secondary school in Chelmsford is looking for an enthusiastic History Teacher to join its department. They are looking for someone who knows their subject well, enjoys working with young people and can make History feel relevant rather than simply a collection of dates and names.

The Role

• Teach History across KS3–KS5, helping students develop strong historical knowledge and understanding.

• Encourage students to ask questions, consider different perspectives and form their own conclusions.

• Develop students' ability to analyse sources, interpretations and historical evidence.

• Support GCSE and A-Level students with essays, source questions and examination preparation.

• Introduce students to a broad range of periods, people and events.

• Encourage wider reading and independent research.

• Contribute to History clubs, trips, debates, essay competitions and other enrichment activities.

• Create a classroom where students feel comfortable discussing ideas and challenging interpretations.

The Candidate

We're looking for a History specialist who genuinely enjoys the subject and can pass that enthusiasm on to students.

A degree in History or a related subject would be desirable, along with relevant secondary teaching experience. GCSE and A-Level experience would be an advantage.

You'll need strong subject knowledge, but just as importantly, you'll need to explain complex historical ideas clearly and make students want to find out more.
