English Teacher – Outstanding Secondary School in Watford
Role: Teacher of English (KS3–KS5)
Location: Watford, Hertfordshire
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: Highly Competitive
Are you an English Teacher who enjoys getting students to think, question and see literature from a different perspective?
An outstanding secondary school in Watford is looking for an enthusiastic English Teacher to join its department. They want someone who knows their subject well, enjoys working with young people and can make English feel relevant beyond the classroom.
The school has high expectations, but it also wants students to enjoy what they are learning. Whether you're discussing a novel, analysing a poem or helping a student improve an essay, you'll be encouraged to bring your own personality and ideas into the classroom.
The Role
Teach English across KS3–KS5, developing students' reading, writing, speaking and analytical skills.
Help students become more confident when discussing texts and expressing their own ideas.
Build strong foundations in vocabulary, grammar, comprehension and essay writing.
Support students preparing for GCSE and A-Level English Language and Literature.
Teach a varied range of novels, poetry, drama and non-fiction.
Bring English to life through discussion, debate, creative writing, journalism, film and performance.
Encourage wider reading and help students discover writers and texts beyond the exam specification.
Get involved in reading clubs, debating, creative writing competitions and other enrichment opportunities.
Create a classroom where students feel comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas and making mistakes as part of the learning process.
The Candidate
We're looking for an English specialist who genuinely enjoys the subject and enjoys teaching it.
A degree in English or a related subject would be desirable, together with experience teaching at secondary level. GCSE and A-Level experience would be particularly useful.
You should be confident with both English Language and Literature and able to explain difficult concepts in a way that students understand.
Just as importantly, you'll be approachable and encouraging. Some students will love reading from day one; others may need a little more encouragement.
If you are interested, please send your CV.
