Role: Teacher of English (KS3–KS5)
Location: Bedford, Bedfordshire
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: Highly Competitive
Do you enjoy teaching English and seeing that moment when a student suddenly understands something they have been struggling with?
A good secondary school in Bedford is looking for an English Teacher to join its department. They want someone who can teach English well, build positive relationships with students and make the subject feel interesting and worthwhile.
This could suit an experienced teacher or someone looking for their next step in a supportive school.
The Role
Teach English across KS3–KS5, adapting lessons to suit different abilities and needs.
Help students become more confident readers, writers and speakers.
Develop grammar, vocabulary, comprehension and analytical writing skills.
Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level exams while keeping lessons varied and engaging.
Teach a broad range of literature, including novels, poetry and drama.
Give students opportunities to discuss ideas, debate, write creatively and develop their own opinions.
Contribute to reading clubs, creative writing, debating or other English-related activities.
Create a classroom where students feel supported, encouraged and willing to have a go.
The Candidate
We're looking for someone with good English subject knowledge and a genuine interest in working with young people.
A degree in English or a related subject would be desirable, as would GCSE and/or A-Level teaching experience.
You should be confident explaining language and literature clearly, but also willing to listen to students and give them space to develop their own interpretations.
The ability to build relationships is just as important as knowing the specification. Students should know that you expect them to work hard, but also that you want them to succeed.
The Environment
You'll be part of a friendly and supportive English department where colleagues work together and share ideas. The school is committed to helping its teachers develop and offers opportunities for continued professional development.
