An outstanding secondary school in Chelmsford is seeking an exceptional English Teacher to join its ambitious and successful English department.

This role would suit a teacher who enjoys combining academic rigour with creative teaching and who wants students to develop a lasting passion for literature, language and independent thought.

The Role

  • Advanced Instruction: Deliver challenging and engaging English lessons across KS3–KS5.

  • Literary Study: Develop students' understanding of novels, poetry, drama and non-fiction through detailed textual analysis.

  • Academic Writing: Teach students to construct sophisticated arguments, analyse evidence and communicate ideas with precision.

  • Examination Preparation: Support students preparing for GCSE, A-Level, IB or equivalent qualifications.

  • Wider Reading: Encourage students to read beyond the core curriculum and explore a broad range of writers and genres.

  • Enrichment: Lead or support debating, creative writing, essay competitions, literary societies and reading programmes.

  • Intellectual Curiosity: Encourage students to question texts, challenge interpretations and develop independent viewpoints.

The Candidate

We are looking for an outstanding English specialist with excellent subject knowledge and genuine enthusiasm for literature and language.

A degree in English or a related discipline would be preferred. Experience teaching GCSE and A-Level English Language and/or Literature would be highly desirable.

You will be confident teaching students of different abilities and able to inspire high-achieving pupils to think critically, write precisely and read widely.
