An exciting opportunity has arisen for an inspiring and enthusiastic Media Teacher to join a highly regarded independent school in Taunton, Somerset, from September 2026.

The successful candidate will deliver engaging and creative Media lessons, inspiring pupils to develop their understanding of media, communication and digital content. You will encourage students to explore a wide range of media forms while developing their practical, analytical and creative skills.

Working as part of a supportive and ambitious teaching team, the Media Teacher will contribute to a stimulating learning environment in which pupils are encouraged to think critically, communicate effectively and develop their individual creativity.

Role Purpose

The Media Teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality, engaging lessons across the relevant age and ability ranges.

The role will involve teaching the principles of media, developing pupils' understanding of media language, representation, audiences and industry, as well as providing opportunities for practical production work.

The successful candidate will create an inclusive and stimulating classroom environment, establish positive relationships with pupils and colleagues, and contribute to the wider academic and co-curricular life of the school.

Media Teacher – Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

• Plan and deliver engaging, challenging and creative Media lessons.

• Teach pupils across a range of ages and abilities, adapting teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs.

• Develop pupils' knowledge and understanding of media industries, audiences, representation and media language.

• Provide opportunities for pupils to develop practical media production skills.

• Use a variety of teaching strategies and resources to promote effective learning.

• Set clear learning objectives and communicate high expectations for pupil achievement and behaviour.

• Monitor pupil progress and provide constructive feedback to support academic development.

• Maintain accurate records of assessment, attainment and progress.

• Prepare pupils effectively for relevant examinations and coursework requirements.

Curriculum Development

• Contribute to the planning, development and review of the Media curriculum.

• Ensure schemes of work are engaging, relevant and appropriately challenging.

• Incorporate contemporary media, digital technologies and current industry developments into teaching where appropriate.

• Encourage pupils to develop both creative and analytical approaches to media.

• Contribute to curriculum enrichment and cross-curricular opportunities.

• Review teaching materials and resources to ensure they support high-quality learning.

Classroom Management

• Establish a positive, inclusive and purposeful learning environment.

Media Production & Digital Skills

• Develop pupils' practical skills in areas such as film, television, photography, journalism, digital content and social media where appropriate.

• Encourage pupils to experiment with different creative and technical approaches.

• Support pupils in developing portfolios and practical media projects.

• Make effective use of relevant digital and media production technologies.

• Promote responsible, ethical and safe use of digital media.

• Keep knowledge of emerging media platforms, technologies and industry practices up to date.

Communication & Relationships

• Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, colleagues and the wider school community.

• Communicate effectively with parents regarding pupil progress and achievement.

• Work collaboratively with colleagues to support whole-school priorities.

• Contribute to departmental meetings and wider staff discussions.

• Liaise with colleagues regarding curriculum planning, pupil support and pastoral matters.

Person Specification

Experience

• Experience teaching Media, Media Studies, Film Studies or a closely related subject.

• Experience teaching pupils within a secondary school or independent school environment.

• Experience planning and delivering engaging, creative and differentiated lessons.

• Experience assessing pupil work and monitoring academic progress.

• Experience preparing pupils for relevant examinations and/or coursework (desirable).

• Practical experience of media production and digital content creation (desirable).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong subject knowledge across Media and related creative disciplines.

• Excellent teaching, planning and classroom management skills.

• Ability to inspire pupils and develop their enthusiasm for Media.
