Caretaker
A welcoming Primary School in York is looking for a reliable, practical and hardworking Caretaker to join its premises team on a full-time, permanent basis.
This is a hands-on role for someone who takes genuine pride in maintaining a school site and understands the importance of providing children and staff with a safe, secure and welcoming environment every day.
Working closely with the Headteacher and School Business Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day upkeep of the school buildings and grounds. Your duties will include carrying out regular site inspections, responding to maintenance requests, completing minor repairs and ensuring classrooms, corridors, offices and communal areas are kept in good working order.
You will also be responsible for opening and securing the school site, checking doors and access points, monitoring security systems and reporting any concerns promptly. The role will involve supporting contractors when they attend the school, arranging access and checking that maintenance work has been completed appropriately.
The Caretaker will also assist with preparing the school for assemblies, parents' evenings, performances, meetings and other events. This may involve setting up rooms, moving furniture and equipment and ensuring facilities are ready for staff, pupils and visitors.
There will also be responsibility for outdoor areas, including checking paths, playgrounds and other communal spaces and reporting or addressing issues that could present a safety concern.
