Job Overview
This welcoming secondary school is looking for a proactive Science Technician to provide technical and practical support across the Science department. Working closely with teaching staff, you will play a vital role in preparing practical lessons, maintaining laboratories and equipment, and ensuring students can participate safely in engaging scientific investigations.
The successful candidate will contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the department by preparing resources, managing equipment and chemicals, maintaining stock levels and ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements. Key Responsibilities
Prepare equipment, chemicals and materials for practical Science lessons across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Support teachers during practical lessons, demonstrations and investigations where required.
Maintain laboratories, preparation rooms and equipment to a high standard.
Carry out routine maintenance, cleaning and calibration of laboratory equipment.
Monitor and replenish stock levels, ordering resources and consumables as required.
Ensure the safe storage, handling and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
Maintain accurate records of stock, equipment servicing and health and safety checks.
Ensure compliance with CLEAPSS guidance, COSHH regulations and school health and safety policies.
Assist with GCSE practical assessments and examination preparations.
Support the wider work of the Science department, including open evenings, STEM activities and enrichment events.

Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
Previous experience working as a Science Technician or within a laboratory, educational or scientific environment (school experience desirable).
Good practical knowledge of laboratory equipment and scientific procedures.
An understanding of laboratory health and safety, including COSHH and CLEAPSS guidance.
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Good IT skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
