Caretaker | Join a Friendly Group of Village Primary Schools | Wiltshire
A group of five primary schools across Wiltshire is looking to appoint a reliable and proactive School Caretaker to join its Estates team on a full-time, permanent basis.
Supporting four small village primary schools and one larger primary school, this is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys a varied, hands-on role and takes pride in creating safe, secure, and welcoming environments. The successful candidate will become an important part of the wider Estates team, helping to ensure each school operates efficiently throughout the year.
This position would suit someone with experience in caretaking, facilities, maintenance, or property services who enjoys practical work and being part of close-knit school communities.
The Role
Reporting to the Trust Estates Lead, the successful candidate will work across the five schools, undertaking a wide variety of caretaking and site management duties.
Responsibilities will include:
Opening and securing school buildings each day
Carrying out routine health & safety and compliance inspections
Completing general maintenance, decorating, and minor repair work
Responding to day-to-day maintenance requests and odd jobs
Maintaining school grounds to a high standard
Supporting contractors while works are completed on site
Assisting with planned maintenance projects during school holidays
Providing flexible support across all five schools when required
About the Schools
The schools consist of four welcoming village primary schools and one larger primary school, all working together within a collaborative Trust. Each school has its own character and strong connection to the local community, while sharing a commitment to providing safe, well-maintained environments where pupils can learn and flourish.
The Successful Candidate
Applications are welcomed from experienced School Caretakers, Site Managers, Facilities Assistants, Maintenance Operatives, Property Maintenance Technicians, or candidates with transferable practical experience.
The successful candidate will be practical, organised, and self-motivated, with a good understanding of building maintenance, site security, and health & safety. Strong communication skills and the ability to manage workloads across multiple locations will also be important.
Previous experience within a school environment is desirable but not essential, as training and ongoing support will be provided.
Salary & Benefits
£25,989–£26,824 per annum
Full-time, permanent position
Monday to Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm
