CORE PURPOSE
We require an inspiring English Teacher to deliver the English curriculum across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. The role involves planning and delivering engaging literature and language lessons, developing pupils' critical reading and analytical writing skills, and fully preparing exam cohorts for GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature examinations.
THE SCHOOL
An 11–16 secondary school located in Hertford, Hertfordshire. The school operates with a centralized behaviour system managed by the senior leadership team to maintain quiet, focused classrooms. The English department is highly collaborative, sharing all schemes of work, assessment tools, and teaching resources to manage staff workload. A realistic feedback policy is in place to minimize out-of-hours marking.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Lesson Delivery: Plan and teach core English language and literature lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 for all ability levels.
Literacy & Textual Analysis: Cultivate strong analytical writing, critical reading, and spoken language skills to build student confidence and textual understanding.
GCSE Preparation: Prepare Year 11 classes for GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature examinations, tracking progress and systematically addressing learning gaps.
Differentiated Support: Adapt resources and provide structured scaffolding to ensure accessibility for SEND pupils while challenging higher attainers.
Form Tutor Duties: Take responsibility for a tutor group, managing registration, daily routines, and parent contact.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in English Literature, English Language, Creative Writing, or a related discipline.
Experience: Open to both experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers (ECTs) with a track record of stable progress metrics.
Skills: Clear communication, strong classroom management, and an approachable manner.
