A successful Secondary School in Birmingham is looking to appoint a dedicated and organised Science Technician to support its thriving Science department. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a passion for science and practical learning to play a key role in delivering engaging lessons across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Working closely with the Head of Science and teaching staff, you will prepare practical experiments, maintain specialist equipment and ensure laboratories are fully equipped for day-to-day teaching. Your work will directly contribute to creating exciting learning experiences that encourage students to develop confidence in scientific enquiry.

Science Department
The Science department is a dynamic and well-resourced faculty that delivers engaging practical lessons across Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Modern laboratories, experienced teaching staff and excellent technician support enable students to develop practical skills alongside strong scientific knowledge.
Responsibilities
Preparing practical experiments for lessons.
Setting up laboratory equipment safely.
Maintaining and cleaning laboratory apparatus.
Monitoring stock levels and ordering resources.
Supporting teachers during practical investigations.
Preparing chemicals and specialist materials.
Ensuring laboratories comply with health and safety regulations.
Carrying out equipment maintenance and safety checks.
Maintaining inventory records.
Supporting GCSE and A-Level practical assessments.
Assisting with STEM enrichment activities.
Preparing demonstration equipment.
Disposing of laboratory waste safely.
Supporting departmental administration.
Maintaining a safe, organised working environment.
Requirements
Previous laboratory or Science Technician experience is desirable.
Good scientific knowledge.
Excellent organisational skills.
Strong practical ability.
Excellent attention to detail.
Good communication skills.
Ability to work independently and within a team.
Knowledge of laboratory health and safety procedures.
Commitment to safeguarding.
Positive and proactive attitude.
