A well-established Secondary School in Liverpool is seeking a dependable and hardworking Caretaker to join its premises team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys practical work and takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day upkeep of the school site, carrying out maintenance tasks, ensuring health and safety standards are met and supporting the smooth operation of the school throughout the academic year. Working closely with the Premises Manager, you will help ensure the school remains an outstanding environment for learning.

Premises Team

The Premises Team is responsible for ensuring the school site remains safe, secure and well-maintained, allowing staff and students to work in an environment that supports excellent teaching and learning.

Responsibilities

• Opening and locking the school each day.

• Carrying out routine maintenance and basic repairs.

• Conducting regular health and safety inspections.

• Monitoring the condition of classrooms and communal areas.

• Ensuring the school grounds remain clean and tidy.

• Assisting with room layouts for meetings and events.

• Managing deliveries and moving equipment when required.

• Monitoring heating, lighting and water systems.

• Supporting external contractors on site.

• Carrying out weekly fire alarm and safety checks.

• Reporting maintenance issues promptly.

• Assisting during emergency situations where required.

• Maintaining maintenance records.

• Supporting the wider premises team.

• Ensuring the school presents a welcoming appearance at all times.

Requirements

• Previous caretaker, facilities or maintenance experience.

• Good DIY and practical maintenance skills.

• Knowledge of health and safety procedures.

• Ability to prioritise workload.

• Strong communication skills.

• Reliable and proactive approach.

• Ability to work independently.

• Good organisational skills.

• Commitment to safeguarding.

• Flexible attitude towards working hours when required.
