CORE PURPOSE
We require a welcoming, highly organized School Receptionist to serve as the main point of contact for our academy. Operating within a supportive front-of-house team, the successful candidate will provide professional administrative support, manage visitor access, answer incoming calls, and maintain standard safeguarding and site security protocols for students, staff, and visitors.
THE SCHOOL
An 11–16 secondary school located in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The school operates with a centralized behaviour and administrative support system managed by the senior leadership team to maintain a structured and welcoming environment. The front-office team works collaboratively, using streamlined digital visitor systems and established communication channels to keep daily tasks manageable and ensure smooth school operations.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Front-of-House & Reception: Welcome visitors, parents, and contractors, ensuring all safeguarding checks, sign-in procedures, and visitor badges are completed accurately.
Telecommunications & Queries: Manage the main switchboard, answering calls, taking messages, and directing inquiries to appropriate staff members or departments efficiently.
Student & Parent Support: Assist pupils arriving late or leaving for appointments, and respond to general inquiries from parents with clarity and professionalism.
Administrative Operations: Provide core clerical support, including handling post, monitoring general email inboxes, and updating student records on the school MIS software.
Site Security Support: Work alongside the site team to monitor main entry points, maintaining a safe and secure entrance to the school at all times.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Strong literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent in English and Mathematics). Relevant administrative qualifications are desirable.
Experience: Previous administrative or customer-facing reception experience, ideally within a school, educational setting, or busy office environment.
Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, a professional telephone manner, strong computer literacy (experience with school databases like SIMS or Arbor is advantageous), and a calm, approachable demeanour.
