Caretaker | Primary School | Chester

A well-regarded primary school in Chester is looking to appoint a Caretaker to join the team from September 2026.

This is a full-time, long-term opportunity for an experienced caretaker or maintenance professional who enjoys taking ownership of a school site and ensuring it's safe, secure, and ready for pupils and staff every day.

The Role

You'll be responsible for the day-to-day management of the school premises, including:

  • Opening and securing the school site

  • Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs

  • Completing routine health and safety checks

  • Maintaining the buildings and grounds to a high standard

  • Setting up rooms for school activities and events

  • Liaising with contractors when required

About You

The school is looking for someone who is reliable, practical, and takes pride in maintaining a safe, welcoming environment.

Previous experience as a Caretaker, Site Assistant, Facilities Assistant, Premises Assistant, or Maintenance Operative is preferred. School experience is beneficial but not essential for candidates with transferable facilities or maintenance experience.

As part of the school's safer recruitment process, references from your current (or most recent) employer and a previous employer will be required before interview.

Salary & Benefits

  • £28,000–£32,000 per annum (depending on experience)

  • Full-time, long-term position

  • September 2026 start
