Attendance Officer Role in a Supportive Secondary School

About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and improving attendance across the school. Working closely with senior leaders, pastoral teams, safeguarding staff, students, and families, you will identify attendance concerns, provide support, and implement strategies to encourage positive attendance habits.
You will maintain accurate attendance records, analyse attendance data, communicate with parents and carers, and support the school’s wider safeguarding and student support systems.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor daily student attendance and punctuality
Follow up unexplained absences and attendance concerns
Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies
Maintain accurate attendance records and reports
Analyse attendance data to identify trends and areas for support
Support attendance improvement plans and interventions
Work alongside pastoral and safeguarding teams
Promote a positive culture of attendance across the school

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Previous experience in an attendance, administration, pastoral, or student support role
Excellent organisational and communication skills
Strong IT skills and experience maintaining accurate records
Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
Ability to handle sensitive information professionally and confidentially
Desirable
Experience working within a school or education setting
Knowledge of attendance procedures and safeguarding requirements
Experience using school management systems such as SIMS, Arbor, or Bromcom
Experience analysing attendance data and producing reports
