A successful Secondary School in North Somerset is seeking an enthusiastic and highly organised Science Technician to join its thriving Science department. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with practical laboratory experience who enjoys supporting high-quality teaching and helping students develop a passion for science through engaging practical lessons.
Working closely with the Head of Science and teaching staff, you will prepare equipment, organise practical resources and ensure laboratories remain safe, fully stocked and ready for daily teaching. Your contribution will play a key role in enabling students to experience practical investigations across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
The successful candidate will become part of a supportive Science faculty that values teamwork, innovation and delivering outstanding practical learning opportunities.

Science Department
The Science department is a high-performing and collaborative team that delivers engaging Biology, Chemistry and Physics lessons through practical investigation and enquiry-based learning.
Responsibilities include:
Preparing practical equipment for Science lessons.
Setting up Biology, Chemistry and Physics experiments.
Preparing chemical solutions safely and accurately.
Maintaining laboratory apparatus and specialist equipment.
Monitoring and ordering departmental stock.
Ensuring laboratories comply with health and safety regulations.
Supporting teachers during practical activities where required.
Maintaining chemical inventories and storage systems.
Safely disposing of laboratory waste.
Preparing resources for GCSE and A-Level practical lessons.
Supporting STEM enrichment events and science clubs.
Keeping laboratories clean, organised and fully equipped.
Maintaining COSHH records and risk assessments.
Assisting with annual equipment audits.
Supporting the continuous development of practical science provision.
Requirements
Previous Science Technician or laboratory experience is desirable.
Knowledge of laboratory health and safety procedures.
Strong practical and organisational skills.
Excellent attention to detail.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
Good IT skills.
Commitment to safeguarding.
Positive and proactive attitude.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
